Welcome
to a call like the one from the Apostle Peter on the Day of Pentecost:
“Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”(Acts 2:40b)
As we study the Bible, we will naturally not be able to use every text in
the Bible which corresponds to the theme under consideration. But we will
point out those verses to you that will complete the section of Truth being
studied.
It is however of the greatest importance for the growth of your faith,
that you inform yourself, by setting aside a time period every day to read
your Bible. Otherwise you could very easily be deceived again by someone
who doesn’t use the Bible as a guide towards salvation.
The Word of God contains the Holy Power of God, the Holy Spirit. He
will enlighten or teach every person who earnestly seeks to know God’s will.
Gods Word is like a double-edged sword. One sharp edge judges a
man’s or a woman’s thoughts and intentions. The other sharp edge enlightens
and gives the power to obey Him.
We read in Hebrews 4:12 : “For the word of God is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul
and spirit, joint and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the
heart.”
The Apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians : “Take the helmet of salva-
tion and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Eph.6:17)
Now a thought to remember. The Word of God is Jesus (Jn. 1:1-5).
The written form of Jesus is the Bible. So if one reads the Bible, he or she
talks with and listen to Jesus. Then, if you really want to understand what
you are reading, you will receive the help of the Holy Spirit. In that setting,
every honest seeker of God’s Truth will get more and more insight in what
God and Jesus have for them and also what is required of them. They will
receive godly knowledge or the light of the Word of God. They will be able
to see themselves in that light and know right away that they are sinners in
great need of redemption. God’s double-edged sword has now judged and
enlightened them. But, to really experience this step towards repentance, one
has to let go of the Catholic or a Lutheran doctrines. His or her mind needs to
be open to the message of the New Covenant in Christ’s blood only.
All the above is done by the Holy Spirit who gives the Word of God
its life and power. Who both convicts a soul and renews a soul through the
Word of God whose double-edged sword He is.
Questions you will be able to answer now:
1) Is the will of God for the German speaking people still relevant
today____________?
2) The “Word of God” refers to what or whom___________________?
3) Have you ever felt the Holy Spirits nearness or guidance________?
With a loving hug Pastor Bert
