I spent many years of my life in Germany.

As a youth from 1938 - 1958, and then as a

missionary from 1980 - 1998. My first wife

Lucie died there in 1990. Her grave is in

Eisingen, Germany. My wife Daffol and I

lived the first six years of our married life

in my former homeland. Her ancestors had

                                         tern part of Germany. For our ancestries

sake and for the love Jesus has for the German speaking people, we

are very concerned about their practices of faith.

 

 It is our heartfelt wish and prayer, to help Jesus in leading individual

German speaking persons to a living faith and sure hope of salvation through

the New Covenant in His blood.

 

I was born in Karlsruhe, in the Black forest  region of Germany. Be-

cause of WWII and the work my father did for the German government, we

moved a few years later to a town called Bretten in the state of Baden. I lived

there until I was 14 years old.

 

      Since my parents were Lutherans or Protestants, I too was joined by them

to that church as an infant and accepted as a future member a few days after

my birth.

 

Bretten is a wonderful historic town of 28000 inhabitants. It was first

mentioned, in the Lorsch Codex, as “villa bretenheim”in A.D. 767. A famous

former citizen of Bretten was Phillip Melanchthon. He was born there in

the year 1497. That would be 507 years ago. He was a Humanist and a great

friend and helper of Martin Luther. His families farm, the Schwarzerdhof,

can still be visited east of the town. A museum in his honor stands in the

town square named “the Melanchthon House”.

 

           

 

I would never have doubted my Lutheran faith, if it hadn’t been for the

people who worked for us. I was a baker and a pastry cook. We had two bak-

ries in Crawfordsville, Ind. I had immigrated to the USA in 1958, now it was

1969. Our helpers would always talk about the teachings of the Bible. They

would never say, “the Pope said this or Martin Luther said that.”  One day,

Loretta, one of our bakers, and great helper, explained to me, “The reason

you don’t know what the Bible says is because you don’t read it.” That is also

the reason, she said, why you have never become a Christian according to

God’s will. She said that I needed to read the Bible on a daily basis.

 

She was one of our best workers. To be honest, I couldn’t just overlook

what she was saying. I could also not think of her as a foolish or silly woman.

She had a wonderful family life with her husband and their children. What

she tried to explain to me, was also the content of her daily life and work

ethic. It battered me to no end and upset me, that I knew so little about the

redeeming teachings of Jesus which Loretta so full of  joy revealed to me.

 

Whatever Loretta  believed, she was able to show me in the Bible. I

found nothing over my Lutheran way of salvation in her Bible or in mine.

My wife Lucie, who had in infancy been joined to the Catholic Church,

was also unable to find her Catholic way of salvation in her little red New

Testament. Even though it had been sanctioned by a Cardinal.

 

Our parents had led us into the religious teachings they had been led in-

to by their parents. One generation passes the traditions and teachings of their

church on to the next generation without ever checking if the teachings are

the Word of God or the traditions of men. (Mt. 15:8,9)

 

            As Catholic or Lutheran German speaking people we were not taught

to accept the Lord Jesus according to His will as stated in the Bible. We be-

lieved what our church leaders and our parents taught us and defended their

point of view against all those who believed differently. They were all sects

according to the teachings of our churches and the German government.

 

     We didn’t know what Jesus and His Apostles, whom He had called, ask of

every single person who would like to be redeemed. We were the German

churches and that was good enough for us. We didn’t know that each person

had to accept the will of God on his or her own. We had never been asked to

repent or to obey the commandments of Jesus’  New Covenant.

 

  After my conversion and new creation by God in the most powerful

and life changing way, I enrolled at a Christian College in Joplin, Mo called

Ozark Bible College. We stayed there for 5 years, from 1975 - 1980. If you

study the Bible for such a long time, on a daily basis, you get to know the

Lord Jesus as a loving and caring Lord and Savior in a very personal way.

You also get to know His Word and intentions in a way that they become a

part of you.

 

I am very sorry, but I can now understand, why we German speaking

people have so many problems to understand and accept the teachings of Je-

sus. We just have never learned to relate to Him and His Truth. We have a re-

lationship to the Catholic or the Lutheran church but not to Jesus. It is also

true, and I have experienced it, many of my countrymen don’t want to know

anything else. They tell me, that their faithful parents brought them to the

church for their christening, which they call baptism, and that they were later

confirmed. Asked where this way of salvation is in the Bible or what about

obedience to the Gospel, they refuse to say any more, because as hard as that

is to believe, they don’t know the teachings of the Bible.

 

Therefore, please  dear  reader, would you help us and Jesus Christ, to

bring these new 95 Theses' to as many German speaking people as you can.

And let us continue to compare the will of God and Jesus with the teachings

of those two big German and Roman Church groups that have led us in the

past into their teachings and doctrines.
